SISC 2026 REGULATIONS


GENERAL PROVISIONS


1. The organiser of the Students International Surgical Conference – SISC 2026 (formerly known as the 26th International Symposium of Students and Young Doctors in Surgery and Other Interventional Specialties in Ustroń) is the Student Scientific Society of the Medical University of Silesia in Katowice together with the Student Research Group operating at the Department of Surgical Propaedeutics and Surgical Nursing, Department and Clinical Division of General, Colorectal and Multiple Trauma Surgery (hereinafter referred to as the Organising Committee).
2. The Conference will include Plenary Sessions, Clinical Case Sessions, Poster Sessions and Resident Sessions. The topics will cover clinical issues in general surgery, gynaecology, urology, orthopaedics, ophthalmology, thoracic surgery, cardiac surgery, vascular surgery, oncological surgery, plastic surgery, paediatric surgery, maxillofacial surgery, ENT, transplantology, surgical nursing, operating theatre nursing and other interventional specialties.
3. The Conference will take place on 8–9 May 2026 in Ustroń.
4. The Conference is open to medical students and students of related fields of all years, as well as doctors, dentists and residents of interventional specialties.
5. The official languages of the Conference are Polish and English.
6. Participation in the Conference requires payment of a conference fee to the bank account of the Medical University of Silesia indicated in a separate email, within the specified deadline.
7. The Organiser undertakes to provide a conference hall and catering at the hotel for the duration of the Symposium. Registration and payment confirmation guarantee participation.
8. Participants consent to the recording and publication of photos and videos on affiliated platforms, including MedTube (www.medtube.pl).


ABSTRACT SUBMISSION RULES


1. Each participant may be an author or co-author of more than one paper.
2. Each participant may present no more than three papers.
3. A maximum of 10 papers may be submitted from one student research group.
4. Additional submissions from a given group will be placed on a waiting list. Acceptance from the waiting list depends on availability and order of submission.
5. A paper may have no more than 7 authors.
6. Qualification of papers is performed by the Scientific Supervisor of the respective Student Research Group (Studenckie Koło Naukowe-SKN).
7. A maximum of 50 papers will be accepted for Plenary or Clinical Case Sessions.
● Qualification for the Plenary Sessions / Clinical Case Sessions is decided by the Organising Committee in consultation with the Scientific Committee, Taking into account order of submissions.
● Papers not qualified for lecture sessions will automatically be assigned to the Poster Session (no limit).
● Presentations forming part of doctoral or habilitation theses will not be accepted.
● Previously presented or published work requires written supervisor consent and full disclosure of prior presentation/publication.
● Only clinical case reports and experimental papers not previously awarded will be accepted.
● The Organising Committee reserves the right to reject submissions. Decisions are final.
● Submission deadlines will be announced on the official website and social media.
● If 7 or more clinical case reports are submitted, a separate Clinical Case Session will be organised.
● Abstracts must be submitted via the official online form in Polish or English.
● Abstract limit: 2000 characters (Polish) or 2000 characters (English).
● Authors are responsible for the content and accuracy of their abstracts.
● The Organising Committee is not responsible for correcting submission errors.
● Authors must prepare a multimedia presentation or poster depending on session qualification.


PRESENTATION RULES


1. The detailed session schedule will be published on the official Conference website.
2. Papers may be presented by one or two authors.
3. Oral presentation time: 7 minutes + 3 minutes discussion.
4. The 7-minute limit is strictly enforced. Each additional started minute results in point deductions.
5. All authors must participate in the discussion.
6. Presentations must be prepared in Microsoft PowerPoint format and submitted electronically by 4 May 2026.
7. Files must be named: session number, session letter, title, presenting author(s).
8. Failure to submit on time results in disqualification.


POSTER SESSION


1. Posters must be submitted on 8 May 2026 during registration and placed in the designated area.
2. Required format: A1 (594 × 841 mm).
3. The poster must include the title, authors, supervisor and full institutional affiliation.
4. Authors must be present during the official evaluation time.
5. Posters will be displayed throughout the Conference.


EVALUATION


1. Papers will be evaluated by the Scientific Committee.
2. Evaluation criteria (oral sessions): scientific value, presentation quality, time management, discussion, author contribution.
3. Evaluation criteria (poster session): scientific value and clarity of presentation.
4. The final ranking is based on average scores after excluding the highest and lowest marks.
Awards:
- Sessions with 10 or more papers: 3 prizes + 2 distinctions.
- Sessions with 6–9 papers: 3 prizes + 1 distinction.
- Sessions with 5 or fewer papers: 2 prizes + distinctions.
- Poster session: 2 prizes + distinction.
5. Winners will receive awards and certificates.


FINAL PROVISIONS


1. Official results will be announced on 9 May 2026 and published within 30 days.
2. Results will not be provided by phone.
3. The Organiser is not responsible for software incompatibility or registration errors.
4. The detailed programme will be published no later than 2 days before the Conference.
5. All disputes are resolved by the Organising Committee.
6. The Committee reserves the right to amend these Regulations.
7. Certificates of participation and presentation will be issued after the Conference.
8. Disqualified papers may be reported to relevant academic authorities.

WORKSHOPS


1. Workshops will take place parallel to scientific sessions and require separate registration.
2. Qualification is based on order of application.
3. Participants may attend more than one workshop provided there is no scheduling conflict with scientific sessions.
